🇺🇸Great article by Gracie Magazine, which is about Eraldo Gueiros, 52 years old, big rider surfer that recently got promoted to black belt, and 30 years of Jiu-Jitsu. GracieMag asked him some questions about the relationship between chasing big waves and rolling on the mats. Here is 2 questions that I translated in english.
GM: The ocean it’s like a Jiu-Jitsu opponent, don’t you think? It’s him that teaches everything. If you don’t respect him, you will be in big trouble and you will be defeated.
EG: Yes, surfing teaches daily, that opponents must be respected. In surfing, ocean is the main one. There is another interesting similarity between the world of boards and martial arts: you have to know the right time to use your weight, you have to be efficient and don’t waste energy. These are some key aspects that we learn over time.
GM: What Jiu-Jitsu and Surfing taught you about life?
EG: Respect, humbleness and perseverance. Both life-styles share the same Common lessons.
